Chau is a Counsellor and Program Manager with Think Kids. She specializes in Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) and holds a master’s in counselling and bachelor’s in social work. She is a clinical member and a registered counsellor with the Singapore Association for Counselling, specialising in Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA).
Chau discovered her passion for working with people with special needs while volunteering at the Autism Youth Centre (currently known as the Eden Centre for Adults) during college and has since accumulated more than 15 years of experience working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), other developmental delays and learning difficulties (including ADHD, selective mutism, medical complexities, giftedness, intellectual disabilities and other co-morbidities), including those faced with mild to severe behavioural challenges (i.e., restrictive eating, social and communication skill issues/concerns).
As a Program Manager, Chau supervises Case Supervisors in the planning and implementation of individualised intervention strategies to help each child reach their highest potential. She implements proven, evidence-based methods of therapy and enjoys being creative and thinking outside the box to achieve results for children she assists. She believes in objectively observing and analysing the behaviours to create positive change.
Chau is passionate about helping children generalise skills in language, play, socialization while decreasing behaviours that interfere with learning. Besides planning and implementation, she is also a certified circle of security parenting facilitator and conducts training and guidance for parents, therapists and teachers on various behaviour management issues.
Besides working with children and parents, Chau also counsels adolescents and adults with anxiety, mood or interpersonal difficulties. She volunteered her time in a number of different initiatives – as counsellor with the Singapore Anti-Narcotics Association (SANA) and for the Singapore Prison Service and running workshops at various schools.
In her spare time, Chau enjoys keeping herself active in sports, exercise and travel. Chau is fluent in both English and Mandarin.
